Migraine Headaches—The Search for New Treatments Continues

There’s never a good time to have one. Unfortunately, they are a harsh reality for approximately 35 million people in the US alone.

Some migraines are preceded by aura. Other symptoms of a migraine besides the throbbing pain include nausea and vomiting, visual disturbances, tinnitus, and sensitivity to light and sounds. Migraines seem to be unique for almost each person who experiences them making this a difficult condition to treat and diagnose properly. As a result, many medical doctors will merely prescribe something to help with the pain and recommend keeping a journal to identify and avoid potential triggers.

The Search for New Migraine Treatments

One new treatment being offered in the US involves surgically implanting a nerve stimulator in the head. This device sends out electrical impulses that are supposed to be able to stop pain signals. While some have reported fewer migraines after the procedure, the 8,000 people who have initially received this treatment are now walking around with an implanted device and still suffer from occasional migraines. Would you rather seek out a natural and non-invasive solution?

Upper Cervical Chiropractic for Migraines

Upper cervical chiropractic care helps to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines and may even resolve them altogether by addressing the root of the problem.

Often, a C1 (atlas) misalignment is the underlying cause of migraines. This happens because a C1 misalignment can put pressure on the brainstem. It also can restrict blood and cerebrospinal fluid flow to the brain.

Clinical studies have revealed that patients may experience migraine resolution in as few as 1-2 adjustments. For more information on how upper cervical care can help with migraines, come and see us at UC Life Chiropractic Centre.
