If you are suffering from migraine headaches, high blood pressure or both and you don’t think you need to see a chiropractor, not only do you need to see one, but you need to see an upper cervical chiropractor. The Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research is so convinced of this that they reported on the positive effects of this type of chiropractic on a 25 yr old woman who suffered from high blood pressure (high blood pressure) and migraines.
When she began to see an upper cervical chiropractor, she had been taking Hydrochlorothiazide for her hypertension. Her blood pressure was up to 134/98 mmHg when she began her care, and she was diagnosed with an upper neck misalignment.
Over the next 12 weeks, she sought the care of an upper cervical chiropractor twice a week. Her blood pressure decreased during that time to 114/80 mmHg, and she also did not experience migraine headaches as often and they were not as severe in pain.
More Research Linking the Upper Neck to Blood Pressure
In a research study at the Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago Medical Center, which was reported on in The Journal of Human Hypertension in March of 2007. The study gained so much popularity that is was featured on WebMD, Good Morning America and other sources.
Researchers divided 50 participants with high blood into two groups of 25, of which one group received upper cervical adjustments to their upper cervical spine. A similar procedure was done on the other group of patients, but they were not adjusted,
The two groups remained under their respective care for the next eight weeks, and those who received upper cervical chiropractic care showed a significant decrease in their blood pressure. And you can probably imagine those who received the sham adjustment showed little to no change.
According to this study, and numerous others on the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic, this type of chiropractic has many health benefits. This is because it focuses on aligning the top two vertebrae in the neck, so as to allow the brain to communicate with the body better.
