The Temptations of taking Medication for Migraines

Migraine, Headache, MedicationMigraines, Medicine and Health Complications

If you suffer from migraine headaches, you want to find relief. It’s tempting to try to find that relief in medication, but that is not the best way to get past those migraines. We understand it helps you get through the day, but it will only lead to further health complications.

Among other problems, a major concern of taking medication, either prescription or over the counter, for migraines is that many migraine sufferers have heart conditions. Those people should never be prescribed common migraine medication, but the patients often do not make their doctors aware of their condition.

Medication Complicates your Heart

The reason for that is that every single one of those drugs is a Triptan, which temporarily narrows blood vessels, and can cause devastating effects for people with heart conditions. Those people who should not take medication for migraines due to heart conditions includes anyone in their 40’s and 50’s, diabetics, smokers, and people with a family history of stroke or heart disease.

Along with that risk to people with heart conditions, it should also be noted that medication actually has little effect on migraines. It may offer temporary relief, but it does not address the underlying cause of the headache. It may even cause a person to suffer from more intense headaches called rebound headaches that occur more frequently.

Of course, since many people are unaware that their over-reliance on medication may contribute to the intensity and frequency of their headaches, they will continue to take the medication.

Migraine Relief

Luckily, there is a way to find relief from migraine headaches without needing to resort to taking medication. That’s through a gentle and precise form of chiropractic called upper cervical chiropractic, which focuses on aligning the top two vertebrae in the spine.

Once those two bones, which are situated at the base of the brainstem, are aligned, the brain can properly communicate with the body via the brainstem. This will enable the body to begin to heal itself of various diseases and health conditions.
