Understanding Migraines in Men

Migraines, Headaches, Men, Upper CervicalMen and Migraines

About three times as many women experience migraines as men, but there are still plenty of men who do experience this neurological disorder. Though, just as different people experience migraines for different reasons, men often experience them for different reasons than women.

The truth is that much of the risk of men getting migraines is just due to the physical stress they put their bodies through. Those migraines could be due to physical labor, contact sports, or various other things that could result in head or neck injuries. Migraine pain can be a result of those injuries.

Wear and Tear

Though, a man’s tendency to push his body through sports or physical labor may not always be what causes the onset of this neurological complication. Sometimes, it could be the result of vascular tissue due to aging. The older a man gets or the more stress he endures the more tension he feels in his neck. That tension affects the flow of blood to the brain, and that could cause migraines.

Of course, for this reason, men who experience migraines are often prescribed beta blockers, which are generally prescribed for high blood pressure. The problem is they are prescribed for migraines as well because they have similar symptoms, but that also means they only treat the symptoms. The problem with treating the symptoms is it’s like painting over walls damaged in a fire and not putting up new walls. The problem is still there. You just can’t see it.

Migraines and Upper Cervical

Luckily, there is an alternative men who do suffer from migraines can take to overcome this neurological disorder. That’s through upper cervical chiropractic, which is a gentle and specific type of chiropractic that focuses on restoring the brain’s ability to communicate with the body.

When the upper cervical spine, which are the top two vertebrae in the spine, are out of alignment by only ¼ of a millimeter, that hinders the brain’s ability to communicate with the body. This can lead to all sorts of health problems in men, including the onset of migraines. The best chance any man has to overcome that migraine pain is to entrust themselves to an upper cervical chiropractor, so they can examine their neck and make any adjustments needed to restore the brain’s ability to communicate with the body.
